ESPN College Football Analyst Kirk Herbstreit is known for his love of college football, his alma mater's team the Ohio State Buckeyes, and his family among many other things.
Herbstreit includes his dogs as part of his family, including his golden retriever Peter, who has taken over the spotlight since his dog Ben passed away on November 7, 2024.
On Sunday, Herbstreit used Father's Day to share multiple posts with the social media world, including a photo of Peter that caused a surprising reaction from a fan.
"Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads out there on the front lines doing the best they can and trying to make a positive difference in their children's lives," Herbstreit said on X.
He called his sons "prized possessions" that he is thankful for each day.
Happy Fathers Day to all the Dads out there on the front lines doing the best they can and trying to make a positive difference in their children’s lives-stages change and we learn and grow along the way..key to me is not having all the answers or trying to be perfect, but to be…

"Kirk, why do you have a childlike obsession with dogs?" one fan said.
"It's Father's Day, you have children, but you're still doing this strange dog bit. You're like 50," the commenter said, to which Herbstreit replied, 'Poor fella."

Herbstreit previously received a letter from former president Joe Biden consoling him over the loss of Ben Herbstreit.
"I am sorry for the loss of your beloved Ben," Biden wrote in a letter addressed to the former Ohio State quarterback in a post still pinned to the top of Herbstreit's X account.
Politics aside-REALLY honored to receive this personal note from @POTUS sharing his appreciation and compassion for the loss of our beloved Ben.
