Knicks Star Josh Hart Calls Umpire ‘Trash’ After Yankees Disaster

New York loves a good crossover.  Wednesday night, they saw the star of the NBA jump in to defend the New York Yankees., Knicks guard Josh Hart weighed in on the wild drama at the end of the Yankees’ 8–7 loss to the Astros.

On the field, it was chaos.

Reliever Devin Williams surrendered three walks before a balk and wild pitch turned a 4–4 game into a four-run Astros rally. Manager Aaron Boone and Williams were ejected amid furious arguing, calling out home‑plate umpire Brian Walsh for what they saw as a brutally inconsistent strike zone.

Then Jazz Chisholm Jr., New York’s second baseman, struck out looking at a pitch well off the plate. The call ended the game and incited a social‑media firestorm

Knicks star Josh Hart didn’t hesitate to tweet: “That Ump needs to be suspended. He’s trash.”

To Yankees fans, it was solidarity.  And Chisholm immediately amplified it with a retweet expressive enough on its own.

This isn’t Chisholm’s first time battling with umpiring he didn’t like.

Back in April, he was suspended one game and fined for an expletive‑laced tweet about a different umpire after being ejected during a game in Tampa. He appealed the suspension and it was overturned to just a fine.

Chisholm Jr. is having a huge season and is within reach of joining the rare 30-30 club. He has 28 homers, 26 steals and an .842 OPS.  Under the hood, the bat speed and contact quality back it up: ~90 mph average exit velocity, 46.7% hard-hit rate, 17.8% barrel rate, and a .386 xwOBA, all pointing to sustainable thump even when the calls don’t go his way.By value, he’s been a top-tier everyday piece: about 4 wins above replacement and a wRC+ around 129, slotting right behind the headliners in the Yankees lineup and reflecting a hitter who’s doing damage while changing games on the bases.

It was a New York moment.

Knicks guard and Yankees infielder, united in frustration over officiating. Add a volatile ending, prior policy run-ins, and the unfiltered appeal of social media? That’s the stuff that trends and a perfect attention-grabber in the digital age.
