Latest Update on Miami Dolphins Injuries

Mike McDaniel spoke to the media after the Dolphins’ preseason game win over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday evening, and he provided updates on a lot of the injured players currently on the Dolphins.

Regarding De’Von Achane, McDaniel said that he has had “no setbacks.” That is a bit of a vague update. I mean, not having any setbacks is good, but that doesn’t give a promising timeline on whether he will be ready for the start of the season. So, we probably won’t know more about this until the first injury report comes out days before the game vs the Colts, Week 1.

When asked about Liam Eichenberg, McDaniel said he doesn’t foresee the injury being season-long, but he also doesn’t see him returning immediately. This leads me to believe he is going to start the season on IR. As much as Dolphins fans aren’t the biggest Eichenberg fans, the team does need him, as the second-string offensive line is struggling, and his presence would be a help.

Talking about Jordyn Brooks‘ injury, McDaniel said it is minor, and if this were a regular-season game, he would have played tonight.

Jason Sanders did not play tonight vs Jacksonville, and McDaniel said he isn’t overly concerned that he will miss Week 1. And that Sanders wanted to kick extra points tonight, but they didn’t let him.

The update on Jaylen Wright does have me a bi t concerned. McDaniel said he is “week to week” with a leg injury, and “they are evaluating a couple of options procedurally.”

To me, that is a big red flag, as he was injured on Thursday morning, and as of Saturday night, they are still evaluating this. I don’t like the sound of that, which makes me think he’ll be out for a bit, and this might be somewhat serious.

If Wright is going to miss time, yes, Ollie Gordon II has been fantastic, but Miami will need to add a running back to this group, especially with Achane also nursing a calf injury. The two injuries to the Dolphins running back room have the room in a bit of flux right now.

I also think that if Wright and/or Achane miss time, Mike Boone may stick around at running back, given his experience and good preseason performances.
