Latest Vikings top 30 visit sends message about intentions in NFL Draft and it's not what you think

Running backs have been a decent priority for the Vikings over the course of the offseason. Mullings is the third running back that the Vikings have brought in for a visit with SMU's Brashard Smith and Arizona's Jacory Croskey-Merrit being the other two.

Vikings hosting Kalel Mullings could mean multiple things

The Vikings have used top 30 visits in a multitude of ways. They have drafted five players who have made a visit and five that have had teammates visit. This is where the Mullings visit could come into play.

The Vikings spent a lot of time with Michigan players on Monday, with defensive backs coach Daronte Jones on the road to see cornerback Will Johnson's workout. He's one of the best cornerbacks in the class and the 21st player on my big board. The Vikings also have a need at cornerback, especially when it comes to youth and upside. It could also be a way to get more information about defensive tackle Kenneth Grant.

Mullings is also a talented player who could help the Vikings' backfield over time. His scouting report from Andrew Harbaugh describes a good role player.

The 2025 running back class is full of talent with different skill sets and specialties. Kalel Mullings is one of the better power runners in the group. He lacks big-time in the receiving department, but that can change once he is in the NFL. What Mullings can immediately contribute to an offense is reliable pass blocking and some good work in short-yardage situations. He will have to be in a rotation backfield to start, but don’t be surprised if he emerges with a job through camp or in the middle of the season. 

The Vikings could prioritize him as a UDFA or late in the draft if they get more draft picks. It's an intriguing visit for the Vikings, and one that we will pay close attention to.
