ESPN is officially moving on from a beloved "SportsCenter" anchor.

In 2023, longtime "SportsCenter" anchor Neil Everett was let go. He spent over two decades at ESPN, forming an excellent partnership with Stan Verrett. During their final episode together, Everett signed off with this beautiful message: "Love is a long road, I’ll see you down it."

Fast forward to May 2025, and it has been revealed that Verrett and ESPN are going their separate ways.

According to Ryan Glasspiegel of Front Office Sports, ESPN will not renew Verrett's contract. As a result, his time with the network will come to an end later this summer.

"There are plans for Verrett to anchor the news-and-highlights program in the coming months, and to appear at stops when SportsCenter does a promotion of '50 States in 50 Days'—an event that kicks off on June 27 to promote the company’s upcoming direct-to-consumer launch—but the network does not plan to renew his contract," Glasspiegel wrote.

This decision will end Verrett's 25-year run at ESPN.

Verrett confirmed this report from Front Office Sports with a statement on social media.

"My life is in Los Angeles is now," Verrett said. "Nothing but gratitude for 25 years of living a dream at ESPN. I’m not retiring. Really excited about the future and some incredible opportunities. Stay tuned."

Verrett, a Howard University graduate, was a sports anchor and reporter at WDSU-TV before signing with ESPN in 2000. As we mentioned earlier, it didn't take long for him to become a fan favorite on "SportsCenter."

We wish Verrett all the best as he enters the next chapter of his career.
