Clairton is in the midst of renovating the newly minted Tyler Boyd Stadium, and the first pictures are in.
Clairton announced last year that Neil C. Brown Stadium was being renamed in honor of the legendary Tyler Boyd, and phase one has included the installation of new turf, lighting, a press box, scoreboard and sound system. Phase two will begin later this year.
The renaming of the stadium was made official at the Clairton School Board Legislative meeting last September. The name was already previously approved and has been in consideration for several months, Clairton head coach Wayne Wade said.
“When you talk about football, most stadiums are named after probably one of the best players that ever played or one of the best coaches that ever coached. You could put Tyler in that category for everything that he did at both the high school and college level in the same state. He’s in his ninth year in the NFL,” Wade told Pittsburgh Sports Now last year.
Clairton football has won 14 WPIAL football titles — second most all-time to Aliquippa’s 20. The Bears have also added four PIAA titles. Boyd was a key part of their 66-game win streak that stands as a state record.
