Major Ohio State target who is committed to an SEC school gives key update that will have the Buckeyes on high alert

The Ohio State Buckeyes are up to 15 commitments in their 2026 recruiting class but currently have just one defensive lineman among them.

Four-star defensive end Khary Wilder committed earlier this month, giving defensive line coach Larry Johnson his first pledge of the cycle. While the Buckeyes boast the No. 2 class in the country, according to 247Sports, there’s still work to be done—especially up front on defense.

One of Ohio State’s targets is to flip a Florida commit who hails from their own backyard.

Glenville (OH) DT Jamir Perez Weighing Flip After Official Visit

It came as a bit of a surprise when Jamir Perez, a defensive tackle from Glenville High School in Cleveland, committed to Florida in May. The Buckeyes have a long history of recruiting success at Glenville, so losing Perez to an out-of-state program raised eyebrows. However, after a recent official visit to Columbus, Perez is still considering his options.

“You know, I’m just not in a rush to make any decisions or anything,” Perez told Lettermen Row. “My decision will come soon, for sure, though.”

Perez is expected to make a final decision soon—whether to remain committed to the Gators or flip to the home-state Buckeyes. He is ranked as the No. 71 defensive lineman and No. 660 overall prospect in the 2026 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Adding intrigue to the situation is that Perez’s teammate, four-star linebacker Cincere Johnson, is set to announce his commitment on Thursday, choosing between Alabama and Ohio State. The expectation is that Johnson will pick the Buckeyes.

Ohio State never backed off its pursuit of Perez after his commitment to Florida. In fact, they’ve only intensified their efforts. A final decision is looming, and it won’t be long before the Buckeyes learn whether they’ll be adding the Glenville standout to their 2026 class.
