Paducah Tilghman High School safety Martels Carter Jr. has an extensive relationship with the Tennessee Volunteers. They've been recruiting him for a while, and Carter confirmed to Volunteer Country in January that he plans to make his way to Knoxville, Tennessee, for a visit in the spring. However, three schools are currently setting the tone in Carter's recruitment, and the Vols aren't one of them.
Carter and his father appeared on "The Five Star Flex" with On3's Phillip Dukes to dish on his top schools. They shared that Clemson, Kentucky, and Oregon are his top three schools at the moment, though he is generating interest from Auburn and Tennessee. Carter commented on the Vols and his relationship with the program. He ranks as the No. 181 prospect in the 2025 class, according to the 247Sports' Composite Rankings.
"I got some boys there. Talking to them about how they like the process and how they’re treating the players. I just talked to Coach [Josh] Heupel yesterday." - Martels Carter Jr. on Tennessee
Carter gave Tennessee's coaching staff glowing reviews when speaking to Volunteer Country in January. "I pretty much know everybody," he said. "Coach [Tim] Banks is my guy. He always asked about my family, and that's who I do it for, so it just hit home to know he loves family like I love family."
