While conference play begins on the field, the Badgers staff will be hosting a multitude of top recruiting targets in the stands.
The Wisconsin Badgers are set to begin conference play against the Maryland Terrapins at home in Madison on Saturday. Maryland is currently 3-0 and will be walking into battle behind true freshman quarterback Malik Washington who has not played against a conference opponent yet. A lot of pressure sits upon the shoulders of Wisconsin with both recruits in the stands and a tough loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide still fresh.
One recruit that will be in attendance during the game is Israel Abrams, an Illinois native who has been a top 2027 recruiting target for the Badgers for months now. Abrams is considered to be one of the top quarterbacks in the 2027 recruiting class and has been a target for Wisconsin for quite some time. Wisconsin extended a scholarship offer to Abrams back in February and have since met with the recruit multiple times in person.
The upcoming stripe-out game this weekend is set to be a major affair both on the field and in the stands as Wisconsin will host a great deal of recruits. Among the recruits invited to the game will be Abrams, who is arguably one of the top recruits the Badgers are currently staying close to.
Currently, Abrams is ranked as the ninth overall quarterback in the class and the 102nd overall recruit in the 2027 class. The talented quarterback holds more than a dozen offers from programs such as Iowa State, Kentucky, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and Tennessee. Notre Dame has not officially extended a scholarship offer to Abrams but will be a program to potentially watch moving forward.
On the field, the reasons why Abrams has drawn so much attention and the four-star rating is pretty clear given his talent. Standing in at 6-foot-4-inches, and roughly 187-pounds, the quarterback has an exceptional frame for the position along with a talented arm. Often, Abrams leans on his arm talent over his running ability but the quarterback is still very capable on the ground as a ballcarrier.
The quarterback does not have the strongest arm and currently has been working on incorporating his lower body more to create better power. To make up for his limited strength, Abrams has displayed great skills when throwing on the run and when exiting the pocket. The quarterback tends to look to throw down field first before taking off and running with the football if needed.
For the Wisconsin Badgers, Abrams would be the ideal pickup for two main reasons and the first happens to be his immediate fit within the offense. Abrams is versatile and not only can fill the passing needs that the Jeff Grimes offense requires, but also would serve as a running threat and could add that layer to the offense.
Additionally, Abrams is a player who will continue to grow into the offense and could help develop younger players along the way. The quarterback is not perfect and still has plenty of room to grow, which means the Badgers would be able to mold the recruit at the collegiate level. Abrams is a team-first quarterback who consistently looks to move the football and get the ball into the hands of his playmakers, which should also lead to the players around him receiving quality reps.
