The Miami Dolphins find their power back, as they select Oklahoma State running back Ollie Gordon II in the 6th round of the 2025 NFL Draft. After drafting defensive tackles, an offensive guard, and a secondary, they go with a running back in South Beach. He complements what they have with De’Von Achane and Jaylen Wright, both players Miami has drafted in back-to-back seasons, but on day two of the draft.

Dolphins Select RB Ollie Gordon II with Pick 179

The 2023 Doak Walker award winner had a down season in 2024, but still has the size and build to be a hammer back in the NFL. The junior at 6’1″ and 226 lbs. had an underwhelming 4.61 40-yard dash at the Combine, but Gordon is more of a hammer in between the tackles. In 2023, he had 285 carries for 1,732 yards and 22 total touchdowns.

Gordon also displays receiving chops, as he had 330 receiving yards and 39 catches that season in 2023. In 2024, due to injuries and Oklahoma State’s offensive struggles, he only had 190 carries for 880 yards and 14 total touchdowns, with 179 receiving yards.

At the Senior Bowl, there is a potential trick play opportunity with him as well, as he threw a long touchdown on a fake play-action pass. The former All-American in 2023 can still be a great fit for a downhill running team and can be a physical thumper out of the backfield, along with some receiving prowess and pass-blocking ability.

Final Thoughts

This is kinda surprising, as they still have needs at offensive tackle, tight end, edge rusher, wide receiver, and backup quarterback. It also isn’t a bad value for a player who was a Heisman candidate, potentially the year prior to having a down season. Now, Gordon enters the backfield with speed backs Achane and Wright. The Dolphins signed Alexander Mattison in free agency as well, rounding out the backfield. They released Raheem Mostert and will likely not have Jeff Wilson back on the team for 2025.
