Texas Longhorns linebacker Colin Simmons in his freshman season was incredibly impactful for the defense that made it to the college football playoff semifinals.

Donning the No. 11 on his jersey, sparked NFL superstar Micah Parsons' attention on social media, singing the praise of him this season, which included a picture between the two when Simmons attended a Cowboys game in the 2023-24 season.

After his freshman season, Simmons has made a name for himself, and now makes an announcement about the upcoming season.

He will be cutting a number off his jersey by sporting the No. 1 for the Texas Longhorns defense in the upcoming season.

Micah Parsons, being one of the biggest athletes going viral on social media, immediately had a reaction to Simmons' post.

"You took off the 11?" said Parsons. Simmons responded, "11 at heart... I gotta go down my own path."

Simmons is the second player this offseason to change to No. 1 for Texas, including wide receiver Ryan Wingo who will be wearing the same jersey number for the offense.

The Longhorns enter a new era with Arch Manning at the helm of the offense, with a lot of new weapons offensively as well.

There are high expectations for the presumed top pick in the NFL Draft a couple years from now, but the defense will need to stay strong to give Manning opportunities to shine. The leadership of Simmons will spearhead an offense that is ready to take the next step.

Texas opens up their schedule with a semifinals rematch, traveling to Columbus, Ohio to take on the Ohio State Buckeyes.
