The Michigan State Spartans seem to have fully won over four-star Class of 2026 prospect Kayd Coffman.
Coffman, a Grand Rapids native, is ranked the fourth-best talent in the state of Michigan and the 19th-best quarterback nationally in the Class of 2026 by 247Sports' Composite Rankings. He committed to head coach Jonathan Smith and his staff in February, but has received plenty of interest from other Power 4 programs -- including a recent offer from Colorado in May after his initial commitment.
Coffman recently travelled to East Lansing for an official visit with Michigan State, and his response to the trip ought to dispel any fears that Smith's staff and fans of the Spartans have that the East Kentwood product may not be serious about his commitment to the program. While nothing is official until Signing Day, Coffman had a three-word message when asked if his visit was reassuring that made his feelings about Michigan State quite clear.
"Yes! I’m home," Coffman told Michigan State Spartans on SI.
During that same interview, Coffman further discussed the visit -- noting how much he enjoys visiting the campus in East Lansing and further driving home the point that Michigan State is now "home" for the young gunslinger.
"The visit was awesome great spending even more time on campus," he said. ""I think the whole visit was just really a great time to understand that I’m home."

Coffman recently gained some attention for his strong performance at a 7-on-7 hosted by the Spartans where he was captured on film making light work of an opposing defense with his exceptional passing skills. The footage was shared by 247 Sports' recruiting analyst Allen Trieu.
Tyrone Spencer, who serves as Coffman's head coach at East Kentwood, also recently praised Coffman's leadership ability and impressive on-field talents while speaking with 247Sports.
“The first thing he wanted to do was have the team read this book together and that was different. I’ve never had a kid do that. We were getting numbers in the weight room and he asked me if I had read 'Getting to Neutral,' a mindset book on how to conquer negativity. He said Russell Wilson used it and it was good to have the team read it. From then on, he’s shown great leadership and has done it by example," Spencer said.
"He has a very impressive, live arm. He can make throws from off hash to the other hash, and on time too. There were a couple comebacks where before the receiver is even breaking, he could get the ball over there. I think he’s just really tapping into himself, too. He has more room to grow in that aspect.”
