Michigan State secured wide receiver Tyren Wortham on June 22 right after Zachary Washington announced his commitment on June 16. Now, the Spartans reeled in a third wide receiver after being disappointed in not landing running back Jamal Rule.
Instead of beating out a Big Ten school, though, head coach Jonathan Smith got an edge over an SEC team
Samson Gash, whose younger brother the Spartans are also heavily recruiting, was extended an offer on May 15. Over a month later, on June 21, Alabama put themselves in the battle and put up a good fight — enough to make Gash's top two schools for consideration.
The three-star recruit out of Michigan is the No. 985 overall student-athlete from the class of 2026, No. 154 wide receiver, and No. 14 pick out of his state.
Originally, Gash was originally debating between Michigan State and West Virginia. After meeting with the Crimson Tide staff and being impressed by the conversation, he happily announced his offer via X. Alabama immediately replaced West Virginia.
It was expected for Gash to take longer to make his decision, especially after the sudden shift in his finalists. However, he stayed on track and announced his commitment to Michigan State on June 24.
He wrote in his caption, "IM HOME." For Gash, Michigan State is just an hour away. Though Alabama put up a good battle, proximity and length of recruitment time may have been big contributing factors in Gash's decision.

This is definitely a confidence boost for the Spartans, especially overcoming an SEC school for the recruit. Michigan State now has 20 commits and is ranked No. 26 overall with their class of 2026.
