After getting shut out against arch-rival Kansas on Wednesday, Missouri softball went cold once more again Ole Miss, falling 1-0 in the first game of a doubleheader on Sunday.
Per usual, the heavy lifting on offense Julia Crenshaw and Madison Walker. Crenshaw went 1 of 3 at the plate, extending her hitting streak to six games. Walker went 1-of-3 as well, which was an encouraging sign for Missouri after she’d gone just 1 for her last 11.
Everyone else, however, struggled mightily. The other seven batters in the lineup — Kara Daly, Taylor Ebbs, Stefania Abruscato, Madison Uptegrove, Adi Koller, Haidyn Sokoloski, Sophie Smith, Mya Dodge and Claire Cahalan — went 0-of-20. Ole Miss’ Miali Guachino was red-hot despite the clouds that covered Mississippi on Sunday morning. The freshman phenom picked up win No. 12 by pitching her fourth complete-game shutout of the season.
Yet again, Missouri got a boost from its pitching. Marissa McCann allowed seven hits in five and one-third innings, but she gave up only one earned run. Sunday marked her third outing of the season in which she allowed one earned run or less in at least five innings pitched. Taylor Pannell entered in relief and stranded two runners in scoring position to end the fifth inning.
Despite the game being rescheduled due to inclement weather in Oxford, the rain couldn’t wash away MU’s offensive struggles. The Tigers have registered six straight games in which they’ve failed to score more than five runs. Sunday also marked the third time Missouri had been held scoreless over the past five games.
The second game of the doubleheader will begin around 2 p.m., approximately 40 minutes after the conclusion of Game 1.

Chicago Blackhawks at Risk of Losing First Round Pick as Other Teams Pitch Big-Money Offers
Mason West is a talented prospect of the future for the Chicago Blackhawks, but it appears he may look to leave hockey for big opportunities in football. The Chicago Blackhawks landed Anton Frondell with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, but it was perhaps their second first-round pick that drew the most intrigue, as they drafted centre Mason West out of the USHL. That pick was intriguing for many reasons, with the 6-foot-6 centre having potential with his talent and his physicality, but now, the team may be in danger of losing the talented 17-year old. According to a report from The Athletic, the No. 29 overall pick has been drawing interest from several NCAA programs to join their team as a football player. Standing at 6-foot-6, the Minnesota native is a star in both hockey and football, tallying 49 points in 31 games at the high school level while also being a star Quarterback, and after putting up 9 points in 10 USHL games with the Fargo Force, the future is bright for him in both sports. Ultimately, at 17-years of age, the future is very bright whichever way West ends up going, but given that the Blackhawks used a first-round pick on him in this past seasons draft, they're clearly confident that they can not only keep him in hockey, but make a good NHLer out of him moving forward.
New Report on Warriors-Kings Trade That Would Swap Jonathan Kuminga, DeMar DeRozan
Jonathan Kuminga has remained a free agent this offseason. There's no telling how his situation will resolve itself with the Golden State Warriors, but ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel has confirmed that the Sacramento Kings are among his interested suitors. It's unclear if the Warriors want to keep Kuminga around, but it's also clear that if he wants to join another team, they wouldn't want to lose him for nothing. One way the Warriors and Kings could resolve the Kuminga situation is by agreeing to a sign-and-trade that would swap Kuminga for players on the Kings roster. It would depend on who the Warriors would want in return for Kuminga. The Kings have some players to offer in exchange for the wing, like DeMar DeRozan or Devin Carter, so getting them would be something for Kuminga. However, even if the Warriors could entertain a sign-and-trade for the young wing, they're not interested in those two Kings. More than that, Sacramento may want Kuminga but only at a fair price. Sam Amick revealed the details during his appearance on Warriors Plus/Minus. "My understanding is the Warriors weren't interested in Carter or DeRozan," Amick said, which was aggregated by 95.7 The Game's Evan Giddings. "As of a couple weeks ago, the Kings weren't willing to pay Kuminga into the $20 million range (per year)." DeRozan is a six-time All-Star who will enter the second year of a three-year, $78.9 million contract. The Warriors are not above either of the NBA's tax aprons at the moment, while the Kings are hard-capped at the first apron.
Yankees’ planned fire sale after Aaron Judge injury epitomizes roster weakness
Would the New York Yankees still be a heavyweight contender without Aaron Judge? Most fans would doubt it. What comes as a shock is that Yankees general manager, Brian Cashman, appears to agree. According to MLB insider Andy Martino of SNY, Cashman had explored the option of selling ahead of Thursday’s trade deadline (6 p.m. EST) if Judge’s flexor strain had turned out to be something worse. Martino wrote this: “[On Saturday], we relayed that the Yankees were floating some of their free-agent-to-be relievers in preliminary trade talks. We have since learned through league sources that last week the Yanks brought up Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt in talks with at least one other club.” It would be strange to see a team with a record well above .500 shop core hitters at the deadline. Both Bellinger and Goldschmidt — hitting .281/.333/.507 with 19 home runs and .283/.341/.419 with eight home runs respectively entering Tuesday — have been valuable producers for the Yankees this year. Goldschmidt signed a one-year deal with the Bronx Bombers over the offseason while Bellinger was acquired via trade with the Cubs. He is signed through 2026 but has a player option at the end of the year. Either player would bring a nice haul back to the Yankees. Of course, the reigning AL MVP’s injury doesn’t seem to be a season-altering, ‘abandon ship’ type of event. Optimistically, Judge should be back soon. But this does serve to illustrate how the team’s success is dependent on one player. Beyond Judge, the Yankees’ batting order doesn’t feature a star-caliber player, or at least a player the lineup can be built around. While this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, New York lacks enough solid hitters to be considered a worthy contender without Judge. The Yankees’ three bottom-of-the-order hitters — Austin Wells (.214), Anthony Volpe (.213) and newest acquisition Ryan McMahon (.223) — all own batting averages below .230 entering Tuesday. And this doesn’t include J.C. Escarra (.205), Oswald Peraza (.152) or even Ben Rice (.229). If Judge was lost for the season, selling wouldn’t have been a bad idea. He is insoluble glue holding the battered Yankees’ roster together, especially with Gerrit Cole and Clarke Schmidt gone for the year. No one on the trade market could replace him, but with Judge coming back, the Yankees might have enough firepower to at least limp to the finish line.
Indiana Fever Flex Kelsey Mitchell After She Torched Chicago Sky in Caitlin Clark's Absence
On Sunday, the Indiana Fever took on the Chicago Sky at United Center. Normally, this matchup would mean the latest installment in the budding rivalry between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese. However, Clark was still unable to play due to a strained groin, and Reese didn't suit up either because of a back injury. The Fever still managed to win, 93-78, and they improved their record to 14-12 after their fifth win in their last seven games. Guard Kelsey Mitchell was the big reason that they were able to push past the Sky so easily, as she had arguably her best performance of this season. Mitchell exploded once again with Clark out of action Mitchell recently got her third consecutive WNBA All-Star Game nod earlier this month. On Sunday, she validated that berth with 35 points on 12-of-19 shooting from the field and 7-of-10 from 3-point range, six assists and three steals in Indiana's victory. With Clark in and out of the lineup, Mitchell has stepped up her offensive game over the last few weeks, and the Fever reminded people with a post on X that she is the league's leading scorer in July. Overall, she's averaging 20.2 points a game on the season, which is currently third in the WNBA, and over her last 13 games, she has put up an average of 23.1 points a game. Mitchell's exploits have come at an opportune time This is the time of the season during which WNBA teams need to start watching the standings and concern themselves with playoff seeding. With Mitchell turning into a microwave lately, the Fever have the sixth-best record in the league. The race for the final playoff spots is tight, as they lead the joint eighth-placed Las Vegas Aces and Washington Mystics by just one game, but Mitchell has been keeping them afloat while their franchise player recuperates. There is no timetable for Clark's return, and she will not play on Wednesday when Indiana faces the Phoenix Mercury. Indiana will then start a four-game road trip with games versus the Dallas Wings, Seattle Storm, Los Angeles Sparks and the Mercury. If Mitchell remains hot, she could perhaps buy more time for Clark to fully heal before she returns. That would pay off for the Fever in the long run as the postseason approaches.
