Anthony Jones updated his commitment announcement timeframe Thursday while talking to reporters.
Jones attends St. Paul’s Episcopal in Mobile, Alabama, and he garners a five-star rating from multiple recruiting sites. He is now considering Alabama, Oregon and Texas A&M ahead of a decision.
“In July or in the first week of August,” Jones told reporters when asked about his updated commitment timeframe.
The five-star released his top three earlier this month. His relationship with each program played a role in his decision.
“Really the relationships with like Texas A&M, Oregon, They’re like far from home. So, that’s a big thing for me and playing for Alabama, I always grew up being a Bama fan,” said Jones. “It would just be great to play for Bama.”

Oregon hosted Jones for an official visit last month and have been working to build a better relationship with him for several months. Getting to Eugene to see what Oregon is building was a good experience for the Mobile product.
“I feel like these past few months, I’ve been building great relationships with them, especially like going up there on campus and stuff, actually being to see them and experience what they’re building,” said Jones. “That’s been better for us.”
Texas A&M has been recruiting Jones for a long time, and he is confident in the relationship he has with the Aggies.
“I feel like I’ve been with them the longest because with the new staffs, and I didn’t really talk to Oregon that much,” Jones said. “Their relationship is probably better than both two. I’ve been with them the longest. So, it’s been the best, probably.”
Alabama’s new coaching staff made Jones a priority as soon as they were hired in Tuscaloosa. The Tide’s relationship with Jones has been on an upward trajectory ever since.
“It’s great,” Jones told Touchdown Alabama when asked about his relationship with the Tide. “I know when they first came, it wasn’t really that good. But now, I have built relationships with the coaches, and it got way better, especially with coach C Rob (Christian Robinson).”
Jones has a tough decision to make with all three teams wanting his services. The five-star reflected back on how he has handled his recruitment so far on Thursday.
“I really just keep my head down, stay humble, just keep grinding, just be blessed for it because we all can get taken away in one second,” Jones said. “So, I’m just very grateful for it.”
