For the first time in over 65 years, the NASCAR Cup Series will have a points-paying race outside of the United States when the promotion heads to Mexico's Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez for the NASCAR Cup Series at Mexico City race in June.

Or will it?

Fox Sports' Bob Pockrass reported last week that there have been rumors that the race won't happen. He reported that NASCAR officials were "adamant" that the race would go on in spite of the rumors.

“There have been rumors for several weeks that the Mexico race won’t happen, even though NASCAR brought drivers to Mexico last week and had Mexican media at COTA this past weekend. I talked to NASCAR this morning. They are adamant that the Mexico race is good to go,” Pockrass wrote on X this past Friday.

But on Tuesday we finally got some official word from NASCAR itself. Appearing on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio today, NASCAR Cup Series Managing Director Brad Moran stated that the race is officially still going to happen.

Moran said that the company has "a big drive on going global" and put a lot of effort into making the race possible. He spoke glowingly of the promotion team and stated point-blank that NASCAR is "going to be there on June 13-15th."

“We have a big drive on going global, and we’re definitely doing it,” Moran said. “We’re definitely going. Everything’s set up. I’ve been there myself once. We’ve had teams that have been there for probably eight months or so, putting everything together...

“There’s been a lot of energy put into this. And again, like I said, we’ve got great partners with (event promoter) OCESA, and we’re going to be there on June 13-15th in Mexico City and ready to go.”

The last time a points-paying NASCAR race was contested outside of the United States was the 1958 Jim Mideon 500 at Exhibition Stadium in Toronto, Canada.

The race was won by the legendary Lee Petty - father of racing icon Richard Petty - who went on to win the second of his three NASCAR Cup titles that year.
