Nebraska improved this last season based on what they did in Matt Rhule's first season. And, it feels like he is building this program back up. Sure, it's taking some time, but it's happening nonetheless.
And, to do that, you have to ace the recruiting side of things, especially in this day and age. Rhule has done a decent job of that so far and is getting even closer to landing a big-time offensive lineman.
Claude Mpouma is a four-star offensive tackle and one of the best at his position in the country, from Mount Carmel High School in Chicago, Illinois. At 6'8" and around 290 pounds, he already has the size to play in the Big 10, but will still need to develop it into some muscle. However, his athleticism at that size makes him stand out.
On3 ranks him as the No. 175 overall prospect, No. 14 offensive tackle, and No. 6 player in Illinois. Originally from Cameroon, Mpouma started playing football as a junior, quickly showing promise with his strength, agility, and pass-protection skills, developed through prior experience in soccer and basketball. And, if anything, that should show everyone that he is still so raw, yet so good with so much potential.
He has narrowed his college choices to Michigan, Ohio State, Nebraska, Florida, and Auburn, with over 30 scholarship offers from schools like Notre Dame and Miami. Mpouma has official visits set for Auburn on June 6, Florida on June 13, and Nebraska on June 20. So, it's safe to say he will be a busy guy in the next few weeks. Nebraska is a strong contender after an unofficial visit in November 2024, while Auburn and Florida have also impressed him.
I'm not saying that they will land him, but getting him could be huge for Nebraska, especially when you consider that the Big 10 is built in the trenches. If they want to compete against the Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State of the world, the trenches will need to be beefed up.
