Nebraska could be close to landing an elite 2026 recruit that a blue-blood program couldn't hold on to

The Nebraska Cornhuskers could soon be on the verge of getting one of the best defensive tackles in the 2026 class. And, they need one, to be honest.

They don't have a single defensive lineman committed in the 2026 class yet, and in fact, they only have two defensive players committed to the class out of 12 total committed players. So, they need some defense.

This week, it was evident they could land one very soon.

Nebraska could land 2026 DT Viliami Moala

Viliami Moala is one of the best defensive tackles in the 2026 recruiting class, and a prospect that the Oregon Ducks badly fumbled. Moala is known for his size, strength, and versatility on the defensive line, and some of that could translate to the Big 10 fairly well.

At around 6'3" and 300 pounds, Moala has the physical tools to dominate as a nose tackle, excelling at stopping the run and handling double teams, and really just eating up space. That's an important role in today's game that isn't talked about enough. His experience on both defensive and offensive lines shows just how versatile he is, as well as his IQ for the game. And, you can't deny that he has some good athleticism.

Moala’s recruitment has been active, with offers from top programs like USC, Oregon, Tennessee, Miami, Utah, BYU, and Nebraska. He committed to USC in September 2024, calling it his “dream school,” but flipped to Oregon in October 2024. In July 2025, he de-committed from Oregon. The Rivals and On3-rated four-star is now looking for a new school, and Nebraska is in the running.

His camp performances, like the Battle in the Trenches, have boosted his stock. With schools like North Carolina, Miami, and Nebraska still in pursuit, Moala is still being recruited heavily.

He would be a huge addition to the Huskers and their 2026 class, one that does need a bit of help.
