In May 2024, Netflix added HBO Max original animate sci-fi series Scavengers Reign to its library. After Netflix acquired the license to all 12 episodes of the show's first season, there was hope that a second chance on a new platform would be what Scavengers Reign needed in order to move forward with Season 2.
Sadly, this was not the case. Last November, Netflix elected not to renew the Joe Bennett and Charles Huettner-created series, and according to a report from What's on Netflix, Scavengers Reignwill leave the streaming service in the United States and United Kingdom on May 31.
Based on the story of survivors of the damaged interstellar cargo ship who are stranded on a foreign planet, Scavengers Reign drew stellar reviews from fans and critics alike. The series has a 100% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 8.6/10 mark on IMDB.
At the end of the day though, Scavengers Reign just didn't draw enough eyeballs to justify committing to future episodes.
"Across 2024, Scavengers Reign pulled in 5.4 million hours viewed, equating to roughly 1.1 million total views (completed equivalent views)," writes What's on Netflix's Kasey Moore. "The momentum carried slightly into 2025, adding another 2.8 million hours viewed (600,000 views) to its tally. Altogether, the series amassed 8.2 million hours viewed and 1.7 million total views globally on the platform—respectable numbers for a niche adult animated property, but evidently not quite the blockbuster smash hit required to justify the costs of a sophomore season for the streaming giant."
The answer is yes. If you're a fan of the show, and want to continue binging its lone season, you'll be able to go back to exclusively watching it on HBO Max following its departure from Netflix.
The show is also currently available on other platforms such as Hulu and Amazon Prime Video, via subscription.
