Newcastle Knights End Losing Streak with Dominant Win Over Rabbitohs

The Newcastle Knights ended their five-game losing streak on May 3, 2025, when they defeated the South Sydney Rabbitohs by 30–4 points at Suncorp Stadium during Magic Round. Fletcher Sharpe recorded his first hat-trick as the Knights defeated their opponents handily.

When Sharpe scored his first try in the fourth minute following a careful punt from Ponga, Newcastle got off to a boisterous start. Newcastle increased their advantage in the game to eighteen points after scoring two more tries in the first fifteen minutes. The Rabbitohs were behind from the start, and Sharpe increased his try total to four in the first half.

Throughout the game, the South Sydney team consistently struggles to find their playing rhythm. Fullback Jye Gray's knee injury in the second half and hooker Peter Mamouzelos' elbow dislocation in the final minute presented the squad with even more challenges. Numerous injuries limited the team's options, which made it harder for the Rabbitohs to compete with the Cowboys.

The Rabbitohs' defensive efforts, which stopped Newcastle from scoring further points in the closing seconds of the game, showed their resolve. 

The first significant score deficit caused irreversible harm to South Sydney and made it impossible for the side to recover control of the match. The coaching staff acknowledged the initiative of team members while stating that performance improvement was urgently needed.

The Knights plan to continue their winning ways. Sharpe's three goals and Ponga's deft passing gave Newcastle Football Club the winning momentum. Newcastle aims to maintain their current winning streak in subsequent contests.
