NFL Coach's Son Rejects SEC Powers for Michigan
Junfu Han / USA TODAY NETWORK

Former Georgia linebacker Troy Bowles has committed to Michigan, multiple sources confirmed Saturday. The son of Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles chose the Wolverines over Florida State and Oklahoma State, adding another high-profile name to Michigan's transfer haul.

The 6-foot, 220-pound linebacker brings an impressive pedigree to Ann Arbor. A former four-star recruit out of Jesuit High School in Tampa, Bowles had previously caught the attention of current Michigan linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary during his tenure at Tennessee. Despite limited playing time at Georgia behind C.J. Allen and Raylen Wilson, Bowles arrives with three years of eligibility remaining.

Bowles, ranked as a three-star (86) transfer by 247Sports, joins a Michigan linebacker room that's expected to return leading tackler Ernest Hausmann and Jaishawn Barham, though Barham is projected to transition to edge rusher. His commitment marks Michigan's sixth transfer portal addition since the window opened December 9.

The timing is particularly notable as players have until December 28 to enter the portal, with College Football Playoff participants granted an additional five-day window following their season's conclusion. For a Michigan program looking to reload after their championship run, Bowles represents another strategic addition through the portal.

This development continues Michigan's aggressive approach to transfer portal recruitment, with the coaching staff reportedly still targeting several other potential additions. While Bowles' playing time at Georgia was limited, his high school credentials and family football lineage suggest significant upside for the Wolverines' defensive plans.
