It was only a matter of time until the NFL collaborated with Taylor Swift. Despite rocking the stages all over the world, the pop icon avoided headlining the halftime show at a Super Bowl.

Encouraging signs began to pop up after Swift made her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce official in 2023. She attended Chiefs games and cheered for her beau, but to everyone’s surprise, the NFL did not consider her for the halftime event.

Swift watched Super Bowl 58 and 59 as the Chiefs competed in both. There was a rumor a few months ago linking Swift to a future Super Bowl appearance. However, she would only accept the NFL’s invitation after Kelce’s retirement because she wanted all of her family to watch the performance together.

Kelce came extremely close to announcing his retirement after the Chiefs’ disappointing loss in February. To everyone’s surprise, the three-time Super Bowl winner opted to return for the 2025 season.

On one hand, Kelce’s return to the Chiefs roster generated excitement; on the other, the news more or less ended any chances of Swift performing at Super Bowl 60.

A lot has changed since then. Swift graced Kelce’s podcast with her presence, announced the name of her new album, and got engaged to the future Hall of Famer.

Swifties, meanwhile, were hard at work. After several hours of rewatching the Swift episode of the New Heights podcast, they discovered hidden details, pointing to Swift’s grand performance in the next Super Bowl, scheduled to take place at the San Francisco 49ers’ home, Levi’s Stadium in California.

Swift, her representatives, and even Kelce ignored the chirping of the conspiracy theorists until the NFL commissioner broke the ice. Speaking on Wednesday’s episode of NBC’s Today, Roger Goodell hinted at having Swift at Super Bowl 60.

We would always love to have Taylor play. She is a special, special talent, and obviously, she would be welcome at any time.

Roger Goodell said

When asked if the halftime show was already in the works. Goodell chose to be diplomatic.

I can’t tell you anything about that … it’s a maybe.

Taylor Swift previously declined to perform at the Super Bowl

Goodell and the NFL’s efforts may finally bear fruit after several rejections from the Grammy winner. The league representatives approached her before the last two Super Bowls but left empty-handed.

In 2023, Swift was busy touring the world for the Eras Tour event. The date of the Super Bowl nearly overlapped with one of her concert dates.

Moreover, most artists use the Super Bowl as a stepping stone for global recognition. Swift is exactly the opposite. She outgrew the NFL a long time ago and is arguably the most famous female celebrity following the death of Queen Elizabeth II of England.

According to The Week, Swift became the first woman artist to debut 12 albums at number one on the Billboard chart.

The NFL aims to attract a global audience to football, and Swift is the best candidate to make that goal a reality. Whether she accepts the invitation remains a big question. For now, she’s happy being the love of Kelce’s life.
