The NFL is always looking for new ways to shake things up in their merchandise department and nothing gets that job done quite like new uniforms.
On Friday, NFL executive vice president and chief revenue officer Renie Anderson announced that the 2025 season will see the arrival of the "Rivalries" uniform set.
CBS Sports' Jonathan Jones compared the new endeavor to the "City Edition" and "City Connect" uniforms from the NBA and MLB.
"The NFL is home to some of the biggest rivalries in football," Anderson said. "We decided to team up with Nike to allow fans and players to connect like never before with the Rivalries program because nothing brings communities together quite like a good rivalry. We know our fans and players are excited for games with their club's biggest rivals and wanted to make these even bigger. And we know our fans (especially our younger fans) and players get excited when their clubs wear unique and or special uniforms."
Eight teams from the AFC East and NFC West will get the new uniforms this coming season. The remaining 24 teams will see rollouts of the new uniforms over the three seasons that follow.
New at @NFLonCBS: The NFL will debut "Rivalries" uniforms beginning this season. Think "City Edition" and "City Connect" uniforms in NBA and MLB. And yes, the throwback unis are staying. More info here https://t.co/lS5eTL0lgm

NFL fans are not at all amused by the idea:
"Yes, don't bother wearing your iconic looks against your biggest rivals. Makes sense," one user mocked.
"how about a thing where the action on the field is interesting and exciting and that's enough?" another suggested.
"Awful. Just AWFUL. Those unis are HORRENDOUS. Now in the NFL? (expletive) Goodell…" a third wrote.
We don't know what the uniforms will look like yet, but the league will be sharing them in the weeks to come.
However, don't expect their release to be met with thunderous applause...
