Evander Kane was just traded to the Canucks, but now analyst David Staples has predicted the Oilers could acquire him once more at the 2026 trade deadline.
The Edmonton Oilers have made many changes this off-season, but perhaps the most surprising one was their decision to trade Evander Kane to the division rival Vancouver Canucks in exchange for a late round draft pick.
The team would then go on to lose Corey Perry and others in free agency, leaving them relying on some very young and talented names, but a reunion certainly hasn't been ruled out.
In a recent trend on social media, fans were asked to share hot takes about their team for the upcoming season, and in doing so, renowned analyst David Staples shared this prediction about Evander Kane:
The prediction was that at the trade deadline, the Oilers would once again acquire Kane from the Canucks, although given the circumstances, Staples clarified that this would be at Kane's full salary cap hit.
Last season, Kane missed the entire regular season after recovering from an injury, but following a promising post-season performance of 6 goals and 12 points in 21 games played, if the Canucks get him at 100%, he's going to be a great weapon for that team in the top of their lineup.
If Kane starts the season well for Vancouver and the team are pushing for a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, there's a huge chance the Canucks won't want to get this deal done, but with inexperience on the wing in the Oilers top-nine, it's a deal that could make perfect sense, and while the team may look for a new face, this certainly isn't a move to rule out.
