College softball’s first-ever one-million-dollar athlete, Texas Tech pitcher NiJaree Canady, has become one of the biggest names in the sport.

She is set to take on the Texas Longhorns in Game Three of the National Championship on Friday evening, but before first pitch is thrown, some massive news was announced about Canady’s future.

According to a report from ESPN’s Ramona Shelburne, Canady has signed another seven-figure deal with the Matador Club, Texas Tech’s NIL collective, and plans to return to Lubbock next season.

“Nija Canady is the most electrifying player in softball,” Her manager, Derrick Shelby, said. She’s box office and she goes out every day and competes. The decision to stay at Tech was not difficult. This program has taken care of her. They have shown how much she is appreciated. The entire staff, her teammates, and the school in general have been great. Tonight, she is playing for a national championship, and she is making history. Everything she wants from this game, she can get here at Texas Tech.”

In her first season in Lubbock, Canady has led her team all the way to the National Championship and earned All-American honors for the third straight year. She holds an ERA of just 0.97 this season to go along with an overall record of 34-6. She’s also struck out more batters than she’s allowed hits, with 317 Ks and 128 total hits surrendered.

She and the Red Raiders will look to win it all on Friday, June 6th, at 7:00 p.m. central.
