No. 7 Texas A&M Surges Past Utah State, Purdue on Opening Day

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION – The No. 7 Texas A&M softball team surged past Utah State, 11-5, with an eight-run sixth inning in the season opener, followed by a 10-2 run-rule victory over Purdue on opening day at Davis Diamond Thursday night.

The two Aggie squads exchanged blows early in the game as the opening frame was knotted at one. kept the Utah State (0-2) attack at bay with an ESPN top 10 catch as the left fielder beelined towards foul territory crashing into the wall making a catch worth nearly two outs. Texas A&M (2-0) found itself behind the eight ball on two more occasions before Eschete evened the score with a two RBI triple and scoring off a single to deliver the 12th Man their first lead, 6-5, with one out in the sixth. A couple batters later, began the trio of haymakers as Ol' Sarge's charges went back-to-back-to-back courtesy of Barbara leaving a dent on the videoboard column, blasting a moonshot to left center and with a bell ringer to right field as the Fightin' Texas Aggies led 11-5. sat the opposition down in order in the final frame to secure A&M's first win of the season.

Momentum carried into the night cap as the Aggies plated 10 runs in the opening three frames, while All-American held Purdue (0-1) hitless through 3.1 innings. The Boilermakers mustered an attempt out of run-rule territory with a run in the fourth and fifth innings before Texas A&M extinguished the light at the end of the tunnel ending the night in five innings, 10-2.

B1 | led off the inning with an infield single to the shortstop. Wooley stole second base and moved to third on a single to left field, who advanced to second on the throw.
