Notre Dame opened up their 2025 season with a 27-24 loss to rival Miami down in Hard Rock Stadium. There’s a lot to take away from this game; Head coach Marcus Freeman, quarterback CJ Carr and safety Jalen Stroman talked through the tough loss, what they need to do moving forward and overall takeaways from the game. They have bye week this upcoming weekend and will have to get some things turned around before they host an AP Top 25 team in Texas A&M.

Here are some of the key takeaways from Notre Dame's post game press conference:
"Obviously disappointing with the outcome," Freeman stated. "It was a top ten fight that came down to a three-point game against a heck of a football team. Our guys have a confidence to build off of. There's obviously a lot of there we didn't do well, but there are some things we did do well. We have to build on what we did well and fix, with urgency, the things we didn't do well.
It's the first game of the year against a heck of an opponent. We had a new quarterback starting and we have to do somethings to help him figure his way out. Defensively, we have to be better in crucial parts of the game. We weren't as high performing as I would like in some situations. We'll take it, get back to work and look at ways to fix it. We'll utilize this bye week to get ready for A&M."
"He's going to be a really good quarterback," Freeman said about the redshirt freshman. "He's everything I thought he was going to be; his ceiling is so high. He's going to have to learn how to take this loss and not let it beat him up too much because he's an ultra-competitor and he's a gamer. He performs when the lights are on, he prepares his tail off and he had answers for questions that myself or Coach (Mike) Denbrock had. He's going to do great things and it's just the start for him."
"I think it was just getting comfortable with being out there with those guys for the first time," Carr said about the offense's second half performance. "I thought we did a good job in the second half of putting drives together. A&M week, we need to be able to start faster and put those drives together earlier."
"We're always going to fight," Stroman explained. "That's all we do. We push and we go with confidence. We're always going to fight back, it's never just one punch, it'll be multiple punches. As a defense and as a team, we're always going to fight back."
