Who does Oklahoma miss from the SEC schedule?

Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi State, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt

It could be much, much better.

Missing Florida and Texas A&M is good, and not playing Georgia is obviously great, but relatively speaking, Arkansas, Kentucky, Mississippi State and Vanderbilt are teams you’d much rather have on the slate than what the Sooners have to deal with.

Oklahoma football schedule, the good and the bad

The Good: There’s a weird game at Temple, but that has to be a layup of a win. Considering the Texas game is, as always, in Dallas, the date with the Owls is the only true road game until October 18th.

A few of the nastiest games are in Norman. Playing Michigan is obviously not easy, but that’s at home along with getting Ole Miss - the Rebels will be coming off a date at Georgia the week before - and close with Missouri and LSU at home should be a massive help.

The Bad: The Sooners have to face all those other nasty SEC teams not mentioned in the “miss” section. Not only do they have to deal with Alabama, Tennessee, and Texas, but all three are away from home.

There’s no real break. There’s a week off between dates at Tennessee and Alabama, but after the layup against Kent State the second half the schedule is as brutal as any in college football. It all starts with four games in five dates away from home.

Oklahoma Football Schedule: Best and worst case scenarios

Best Case Scenario: To be realistic about this, the Sooners take out Michigan on the way to a 5-0 start. And then comes the fun.

They pull off wins over Texas and at South Carolina before the showdown at Ole Miss at home. They get that, everything is great, and then win at least two of the last four games leading to a spot in the SEC Championship.

Worst Case Scenario: The Sooners drop that date with Michigan, lose to Texas, and the wheels come off over the second half of the year.

They don’t win any of the three road dates against South Carolina, Tennessee, and Alabama, and they have to beat both Missouri and LSU just to get bowl eligible.

Season Prediction: (Jan. 30) You see that date of when this is written? Out of all 16 SEC teams, expect Oklahoma’s schedule predictions and thoughts to undergo the wildest changes over the next several months - especially after spring ball.

It’ll handle the first half of the slate fine, struggle through the second half, and realistically finish with seven wins on the way-low side, ten if everything goes absolutely right.

The Season Prediction will be updated several times this offseason
