The Oklahoma Sooners have added yet another player from Kennesaw State, but this one is not a skill player or anything like that -- he's a kicker.

But, no need to worry, there is a reason people want Kennesaw State's special teamers -- they are ranked the 14th best FBS special teams unit in the country, according to PFF.

So the Sooners decided to get in on the fun.

Oklahoma Sooners sign Kennesaw State Kicker

Austin Welch, the former Kennesaw State kicker, has earned the title of Conference USA Special Teams Player of the Week multiple times, notably after his game-winning field goal against FIU, demonstrating his capability in high-pressure scenarios.

Throughout the season, he achieved a flawless record, going 11-for-11 on field goals, placing him among the elite few FBS kickers with perfect accuracy over more than 11 attempts. His standout performance included making two crucial field goals against Liberty, one a notable 41-yarder in the second half.

His pivotal role was evident in a dramatic 27-26 victory over Florida International, where his 19-yard field goal sealed Kennesaw State's comeback in the fourth quarter. Prior to his time at Kennesaw State, Welch had limited playing time at Eastern Kentucky University, appearing in just one game in 2023.

His consistent and reliable kicking has become a cornerstone for them, significantly contributing to their success in special teams. Hopefully, he can bring similar accolades to Norman.
