For the Oklahoma Sooners, the month of July hasn't gone as well as May and June did on the recruiting front. The Sooners were left stunned by the commitments of Jacob Eberhart and Jordan Clay to lesser schools, and fans are beginning to sour on the hopes of this class after losing out on several top players over the last month.
The Sooners have gambled on a new strategy to fill out this 2026 recruiting class that has been mostly a double-edged sword, and they are currently finding it swinging back on them.
However, they got a much-needed break on Thursday afternoon, as one of their prized committed players reaffirmed his decision to remain with Oklahoma.

— Daniel K. Odom (@nolimitd3__) July 17, 2025
Four-star wide receiver Daniel Odom has been Oklahoma's longest committed recruit, having joined the Sooners' 2026 class back in January. He is just one of three four-stars the Sooners have in their class, according to 247Sports' rankings, alongside quarterback Bowe Bentley and linebacker Jakore Smith.
This is a huge win for the Sooners, as Odom, as recently as this week, has stated he wanted to take a visit to Colorado. Oklahoma was quick to shut that down, as they can ill-afford another battle for a top prospect after their recent string of losses. Losing Odom would have been a death knell to their hopes of building a solid recruiting class.
Odom's decision to lock down his recruitment is a big deal for Oklahoma, and it gives them at least a little glimmer of hope after weeks of shocking losses. Hopefully, this can be a building block for them to bounce back and regain some momentum as they look to close out their 2026 class.
