On Saturday afternoon, the Oklahoma State Cowgirls softball team blew a three-run lead to Arkansas in brutal fashion.

The group entered the seventh inning up 5-2, but allowed the Razorbacks to plate three runs and tie the ball game up, heading into extras.

As unpredictable as it may seem, Oklahoma State was the much better team through the first six innings, leading No. 4 Arkansas with three outs remaining. RyLee Crandall made quick work of Reagan Johnson, who flew out to right field for the first out of the inning.

Unfortunately, Crandall would follow up on the out by allowing a single and a walk, which caused Kenny Gajewski to bring Ruby Meylan back into the circle to pitch. Things didn’t go any better for her, as she immediately gave up a two-run double, which put the game at 5-4, in favor of Oklahoma State.

The Cowgirls then were fortunate to snag the second out of the inning, with Kailey Wyckoff grounding out back to the pitcher. With one out remaining, Meylan did not execute her pitch, and Ella McDowell jumped on top of it, tying the game up with a two-out RBI.

In extras, Oklahoma State didn’t reach first base with three straight pop outs. At this point, the momentum had fully swung in favor of the host team, and Arkansas loaded the bases and walked it off with an RBI single in the eighth by Courtney Day.

While heartbreaking, the loss didn’t signal the end of OSU’s season. They will face the winner of Indiana and Saint Louis at 6:00 p.m. central in Fayetteville.
