The Oregon Ducks have done a great job to hold onto assistant coaches this offseason, but one, wide receivers coach Junior Adams , did depart the program to take the same position in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys.

It looks like Oregon has filled that vacancy in their coaching staff, bringing in former Syracuse wide receivers coach Ross Douglas to take over at that spot. Douglas was instrumental in leading Syracuse to a dynamic passing attack, and he has quite a bit of familiarity with the Big Ten that will help him feel right at home in Oregon.

The former Michigan wide receiver got started as a graduate assistant with Rutgers the year after he graduated, diving straight into the coaching ranks. What Douglas did with Syracuse last year was nothing short of unbelievable. Their top trio of wide receivers, Jackson Meeks, Trebor Pena, and Darrell Gill Jr combined for a total of 492 receiving yards in their career prior to the 2024 seasons. Last year, they popped off for 2,572 yards and 18 touchdowns. Meeks, in particular, was a backup at Georgia as a freshman, sophomore, and junior at Georgia. Transferring to Syracuse, he became the team's leading receiver last season with 1,021 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.

Douglas didn't just serve as the wide receivers coach with Syracuse, he was also the passing game coordinator. He's a young, bright mind in the football world, the perfect type to match Dan Lanning's intensity and aggressive style of coaching. Paired with Lanning and offensive coordinator Will Stein, Douglas will bring some fresh ideas and energy to one of the country's top passing attacks.

The wide receiver coaching role at Oregon is a crucial one this season. Outside of veteran Evan Stewart returning to the team, the Ducks will be counting on some young and inexperienced playmakers to step up. Depending on how he does in camp, it's possible that the top wide receiver in the 2025 recruiting class, Dakorien Moore, could even force his way onto the field as a true freshman. Douglas will have plenty of talent to work with, and will aim to guide the Ducks' receivers to new heights in Eugene.
