Oregon Listed Twice on Best College Football Rivalries Rankings
Chris Pietsch/The Register-Guard / USA TODAY NETWORK

The Oregon Ducks are coming off one of the best seasons in the history of their program. While it didn't end with them hoisting the College Football Playoff Championship trophy, it was still a thrilling ride. They went undefeated in the regular season, which is particularly impressive when you account for the fact that it was just their first year in the Big Ten after departing the Pac-12.

The Ducks defeated the Penn State Nittany Lions in the Big Ten Conference Championship game to earn the No. 1 overall seed in the new-look College Football Playoff that featured 12 teams. However, the first-round bye might have worked against them, as the Buckeyes were coming off a win over Tennessee on December 21, while the Ducks hadn't played since December 7.

Oregon listed twice on best College Football rivalries rankings

With the start of the 2025 season less than two months away, fans are beginning to anticipate another big year for the Ducks. Even with the Ducks having moved to the Big Ten, their key rivalry games remain on the schedule.

In a recent article by The Athletic's Scott Dochterman , he ranked the top 100 rivalries in college football. Two rivalries with the Ducks made the list. The first was at No. 27 between the Ducks and the Oregon State Beavers.

"No offense to the Apple Cup, but this is the best former Pac-12 rivalry in which the programs no longer share a conference," wrote Dochterman. "Several games the past two decades decided league and divisional titles. With only 40 miles separating the campuses, this rivalry has a chance to maintain its intensity even with Oregon moving on to the Big Ten."

The two have met 128 times, the fourth-most in FBS history, and the Ducks hold the series lead 69-49-10. The second entry in Dochterman's rankings features the Ducks against their former Pac-12, now Big Ten, rival Washington.

The two teams first played on December 1, 1900, and have met a total of 117 times. The Huskies hold a 63-49-5 series lead.

"These border foes have engaged in a different type of rivalry with one another than with their in-state foes, and this one has especially gained prominence the last 15 years," wrote Dochterman. "This Pacific Northwest series has the highest growth trajectory of any current rivalry."

Despite conference realignment, the Ducks will face both of those opponents this season. They'll take on the Beavers in Eugene on September 20, and the Huskies on November 29 on the road, Thanksgiving weekend.
