Orlando’s Omari Jones Secures Olympic Boxing Medal for USA
Katie Goodale-USA TODAY Sports

Omari Jones, who is hailed from Orlando, Florida, is through to the semifinal of the welterweight division of the boxing competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Jones has now assured himself of at least a bronze medal after he delivered a convincing 5-0 unanimous decision win over Rami Kiwan of Bulgaria.

The Orlando native looked impeccable throughout the 3-round match, unleashing a combination of punches that landed cleanly on the head and body of the Bulgarian.

Jones, who also scored a resounding 5-0 win over Kan Chia-wei of Chinese Taipei in the round-of-16, will next take on Asadkhuja Muydinkhujaev of Uzbekistan, the reigning world champion at the 71-kilogram weight class (welterweight).

Jones has an amateur record of 30 wins with 10 losses while his opponent, Muydinkhujaev, boasts an impeccable slate of 47 wins with 6 losses.

The winner of their semifinal match on Monday, August 6, will take on the winner of the other semifinal bout between Marco Verde of Mexico and Lewis Richardson of Great Britain.
