In the Pac-12’s final season of existence in its present state, the conference is demonstrating with its success in the postseason that it might be the best football conference in the country this season. It’s a shame it has to end this way.
With only Monday’s national championship game remaining to be played, the Pac-12 has the best bowl record at 5-3. If Washington beats Michigan in the title game, Cal will walk away with the best conference postseason record at 6-3. If Michigan wins, the Big Ten will have the best postseason record at 6-4 to the Pac-12’s 5-4. Interestingly, the Huskies will be members of the Big Ten in 2024. In fact, four of the Pac-12's five bowl wins came from the four teams headed to the Big Ten next season.
Of course, bowl records don’t necessarily provide an accurate measure of a conference’s strength, but it has become a barometer that people point to when declaring which conference is best.
The NCAA must think the conference bowl records have some significance since it keeps track of them on its site.
