Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has not been shy about his Dallas Mavericks fandom.
Despite being a fan of 11-time All-Star Anthony Davis, Mahomes was notably distraught when the franchise traded away superstar point guard Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers back in February in a deal that brought Davis to Dallas.
Like the rest of the NBA world, the two-time NFL MVP was watching Thursday’s Summer League matchup between the Mavericks and Lakers, which marked Flagg’s NBA debut.
With four-and-a-half minutes left in the first quarter, Flagg turned plenty of heads, scoring the first points of his NBA career with a monster slam dunk that brought the crowd to its feet.
Mahomes posted his reaction to Flagg’s viral moment, posting “Cooop!” on X before deleting the post moments later and retweeting the Mavericks’ X post that read “COOOOOOOOOP!!!!!!”
Mahomes also retweeted a post of Flagg’s dunk from the ESPN X account with the caption “Coop slam No. 1 pick getting comfortable early .”

During an appearance on FanDuel TV’s “Up & Adams” this week, Mahomes admitted he was thrilled that the Mavericks landed Flagg with the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft last month.
The 29-year-old QB told host Kay Adams that adding Flagg to a team that already boasts Davis, Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, and P.J. Washington.
“I’m like a very low-key Duke fan,” Mahomes admitted. “I was growing up. Like, JJ Redick, Sheldon Richardson, all the guys that were just like my childhood. But obviously, I’m a Texas Tech fan now. I watched Cooper Flagg last year — great player, and I was extremely excited for him to come to the Mavs.
“Once they get healthy, they’ll have as good a chance as anybody of taking home a championship. But we’re going to have to do a lot of work, and he’s going to have to continue to get better and better. I still love my guy Luka no matter what, so I’ll be rooting for him as well, but my Mavs have a chance. We got some hope again in Dallas.”
The Mavericks held off the Lakers to take an 87-85 win on Thursday. Flagg finished with 10 points, six rebounds, four assists, three steals, and a block in 32 minutes.
