The New England Patriots are in a tricky situation in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. At fourth overall, the Patriots are likely to miss out on either Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter. But a recent report is good news for the chances one of the two best non-quarterbacks would make it to the Patriots.

According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the New York Giants are meeting with Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders for one last private workout. The Giants are flying out to Colorado to get one more look at Sanders before the draft.

This is great news for the Patriots. If the Giants decide to go with Sanders at third overall, the Patriots would be guaranteed to get one of Hunter or Carter. Sending the contingent to Colorado shortly before the draft suggests the Giants have some real interest in the Colorado quarterback.

Before this report, the Patriots were likely to miss on Carter or Hunter. Now, the door opens to a chance for the Patriots can get one of the few blue-chip prospects in the draft at a position of need.

The consensus among draft analysts had been painting the picture of both Carter and Hunter going ahead of New England at fourth overall. But, if the Giants' interest comes to fruition, one of the two non-quarterbacks would be available for the Patriots.

On the Todd McShay Show at the Ringer, Todd McShay left the door open to Sanders to the Giants at third overall. He said that with the Tennesee Titans going Cam Ward and the Cleveland Browns likely taking Hunter, the Giants are weighing Carter and Sanders at third overall.

For the Patriots' sake, the best outcome would be the Giants taking Sanders at third overall. With the contingent heading to Colorado for a last-minute visit with Sanders, the Patriots have some hope of landing the Penn State edge rusher.

The first round of the 2025 NFL Draft is on Thursday, April 24. Whether the Patriots land Carter or not will be known shortly after the draft begins, as the Giants are the only thing between Carter coming to New England.
