The big talk of the day is Penn State football opening its 2024 schedule at Big Noon against West Virginia Aug. 31.

But that wasn’t the only news of the day regarding Penn State football’s schedule.

Game times have been announced for PSU’s first two home contests.

The home opener against Bowling Green is scheduled for noon on the Big Ten Network.

Three weeks later PSU will open its conference season at home— something it hasn’t done since 2015– against Illinois at 3:30. TV information for the Illinois game is yet to be announced.

So here’s what we know so far about Penn State’s schedule as far as kickoff and TV times go.

  • Aug. 31: at. West Virginia, noon on FOX
  • Sept. 7: vs. Bowling Green, noon on the Big Ten Network
  • Sept. 21: vs. Illinois, 3:30.

This will be the first time Penn State and Bowling Green have played since 1998, with the only other meeting coming in 1987.

Penn State won both games— each at home— and the 1987 game is best remembered for being Joe Paterno’s 200th win.

Penn State and Illinois have played much more frequently, with PSU leading the all-time series 21-6. 23 of the 27 meetings have come since Penn State first started playing in the Big Ten in 1993. The most recent one was in 2023, a 30-13 road win last September. Penn State will almost certainly  be favored again this time around.

Penn State has the traditional 12 regular season games in 2024, with the most prominent away game scheduled for Oct. 12 at Big Ten newbee USC and the biggest home game scheduled for Nov. 2 against traditional Big Ten foe Ohio State. Times and TV information for those two games and the remaining seven have yet to be announced.
