Braeden Davis is certainly capable of winning a national championship, if not multiple in his time with Penn State wrestling.

But it won’t happen this weekend.

As a true freshman, Davis won the Big Ten title at 125 pounds and entered the national championships ranked No. 1.

His first two matches in Kansas City went well, with him winning both to move on to the quarterfinals.

In his quarterfinal match, Davis met Arizona State’s Richard Figueroa, seeded eighth. In a tough bout, Davis lost, 3-2, ending his national title bid.

Davis’ season isn’t over, and he still has a chance to be an All-American. He just has to place in the top eight. In any case, Davis has solved what had been one of Penn State wrestling’s only problems— a formidable 125-pounder.
