PHOENIX — Phoenix Rising’s head coach Pa-Modou Kah spoke to media Wednesday afternoon to dicuss his thoughts on the club’s tough three-match schedule the past week and the upcoming USL Jägermeister Cup rounds.

Phoenix comes off one of its toughest weeks yet. Phoenix was close to coming up with a win against Detroit City FC, until they ultimately fell after an explosive comeback from Detroit City 3-2 last Saturday. However, they were able to shake off the loss and advance in the U.S. Open Cup after going into penalties against FC Tulsa on Wednesday. When asked about how he felt about coming off last weekend and coming to this next, head coach Kah said he feels very good.

“I’m very proud,” he said. “Obviously, you know, you could have won the game. It’s been a lot of ifs, it’s been a lot of buts, but they’re putting strings of bits of performance. Now we ned to put a whole 90-minute performance which I think will build the confidence even more.”

As Phoenix enters the USL Jägermeister Cup this weekend, Kah says it’s an excellent opportunity to get the players into more playing time.

“It’s great because more games, you know, more opportunities to win trophies because at the end of the day that’s what players are playing for, right?” said Kah. “They’re playing to earn a new contract and they’re playing to leave a legacy and the legacy is all form of cups that you can play in.”

With Phoenix missing some of its key players, such as Mohamed Traore and Emil Cuello, Kah says the players and the productivity they bring to the team are missed. He believes they’ll hopefully be back within a week, give or take.

Phoenix Rising’s USL Jägermeister Cup round one match will be this Saturday, April 26 at 7 p.m. as it hosts San Antonio FC.
