Brandon George has a chance to put himself out there before the 2025 NFL Draft in April.
George — a 6-foot-3, 240-pound linebacker from Reading, Pa. — hasn’t officially declared for the 2025 NFL Draft (he is out of collegiate eligibility), but he will compete in the Tropical Bowl this weekend.
The Tropical Bowl is a postseason All-Star event for seniors and is held at Daytona Stadium in Daytona Beach, Fla. George will compete on the National Team during the event.
George is coming off a final season at Pitt in which he served as a defensive captain, racking up 80 tackles (29 solo), two tackles for loss, a sack, an interception, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
He almost didn’t return to Pitt for his final season of eligibility, as he entered the transfer portal after the 2023 season, but he decided to finish what he started and emerged as a leader this season — putting in his best season.
“I felt we had a good season, all things considered,” George said after the bowl loss. “You look at our roster, we have a lot of young talent, we have a lot of guys that haven’t been in situations and a lot of guys that stepped up throughout the season. We got hit by the injury bug, that’s the name game. So, I think overall, we have a bright future at Pitt. There’s a lot of young talent, a lot guys that are going to step up and contribute a lot and you shouldn’t be surprised.”
George played in 65 games during his time at Pitt. If you take out the 2022 season, in which he only played three games, he’s been a mainstay in the lineup. Every game in 2020, 2021, 2023 and 2024. He missed the first two games of his true freshman season in 2019 and then dressed for the final 11.
He recorded 198 tackles (90 solo), 18 tackles for loss, four sacks, two interceptions, three forced fumbles, a recovery and three pass breakups in his Pitt career.
Brandon George is the latest Pitt player to earn an All-Star event, following Gavin Bartholomew (Senior Bowl), Konata Mumpfield and Ben Sauls (Shrine Bowl) and Donovan McMillon (Hula Bowl).
The 10th annual Tropical Bowl is set for Jan. 19 at Daytona Stadium in Florida.
