An Asian Champions League game descended into chaos after a player attempted an overhead kick that ended up hitting his opponent in the head. Al-Ahli faced Johor Darul Ta’zim in the quarterfinals of the competition. Al-Ahli’s Ali Majrashi attempted an overhead kick that struck Jairo Da Silva right in the face.

Da Silva lay on the ground, seemingly unresponsive, while several players were in disbelief of the situation. Players of the Malaysian club desperately called for the medical staff to aid Da Silva. Captain Natxo Insa sprinted over to the staff and grabbed a stretcher.

As soon as the player fell to the ground, some of his teammates took issue with their opponent. Another Joho player pushed Majrashi while his teammate was down. More players joined the scuffle and fans also reacted to the whole sequence.

Jairo Da Silva In Stable Condition After Champions League Incident

The referee showed Majrashi the red car. Footage showed him inconsolable with his head in his hands. He was seen in tears at full-time. A journalist shared an update on Da Silva, informing that the player was in stable condition in the hospital.

“The condition of a Johor Club player is stable and will undergo X-rays on the face and head to ensure the player is safe from any serious injury.”

Al-Ahli won the game 2-1, advancing to the Asian Champions League semifinal.
