With the NBA season still not over, the interest is already shifting towards the upcoming NBA Draft. With the likes of Caleb Wilson eyeing big in the NBA, the draft will have a stacked lineup. Surprisingly, one of the potential first-round picks, Tounde Yessoufu, has decided to withdraw his name from the 2026 NBA draft.

According to a recent report from ESPN’s Shams Charania, “Baylor’s Tounde Yessoufou — a potential first-round pick — has withdrawn from the 2026 NBA draft and committed to St. John’s Red Storm men’s basketball program to play for Rick Pitino, his agency THE TEAM tells ESPN.”

This came as quite a shocker for fans, as teams like the Golden State Warriors and others could have been interested in the Baylor star. Analyzing his game, Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley posed Yessoufu as a potential first-round pick in a mock draft.

According to Buckley’s prediction, the NCAA star could have been roped in by the Dallas Mavericks at number 30. Surely, this would have been a great addition for a struggling Mavericks outfit.

Yessoufu comes in with an elite physical presence coupled with an energetic display on the court. Together with Cooper Flagg, the 20-year-old would have made the Mavericks’ roster strong. Unfortunately, that is not going to happen at the moment.

Meanwhile, as NBA fans will have to wait one more year, St. John’s will have some exciting days ahead.

Tounde Yessoufu Will Make a Great Fit for St.John’s

Legendary NCAA coach Rick Pitino will be very happy after acquiring the 20-year-old from Baylor. Playing for the Bears last season, the 6-foot-5 freshman dropped averages of 17.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, and a couple of steals. Looking at his incredible surge, ESPN projected him to be the 34th overall pick to the Sacramento Kings this year.

However, after changing his mind, the 20-year-old rising talent decided to give college basketball one more year. At St. John’s, Yessoufu will be teaming up with Quinn Ellis, Ian Jackson, Donnie Freeman, and more.

Thus, to gain more experience, Yessoufu will remain in college for now. However, fans will be eagerly waiting to see how things pan out next.
