Barstool Sports has suffered another tragic loss following the death of a young employee.
Earlier this month, Jonathan Stanko, a product technician for the company, passed away at 32 after a battle with cancer. On Thursday, Barstool founder and president Dave Portnoy announced that Iga Obrycka, who was the general manager of Barstool Nashville, died this week. She was only 28 years old.
"More sad news in Barstool Family. We suddenly lost Iga Obrycka this week," Portnoy wrote on X/Twitter. "Iga basically ran our Bar group for us. If you ever went to Barstool Nashville you probably saw her there. I would have hired her for any position she wanted at our company because she was that smart and driven. Just incredibly sad news and another cruel reminder not to take a minute for granted. RIP Iga."
Since news of Obrycka's death became public, people have been paying tribute to her on her Instagram page and offering their prayers and condolences on X/Twitter as well.
"Thoughts and Prayers to the families and friends impacted," one person wrote.
"Keeping Iga’s close friends and family in my thoughts. Rest in peace to an awesome human," a second person said.
"Nooo! This is horrible. As a Nashville native she was was wonderful. Rest easy friend," a third person added.
"I'm so sorry for your loss. Praying for her and her family during this difficult time," a fourth person chimed in.
"This absolutely sucks to hear and we’re sorry for you and the entire Barstool fam. May she rest," a fifth commenter added.
At Barstool Nashville, Obrycka was responsible for "overseeing daily operations, managing the venue, and coordinating events that drew large crowds."
Her Instagram profile says she was also a chief marketing officer for Stanton and Bowery.
"Best partner in crime to explore a new city with and do it all while 'working,'" one person commented on Obrycka's latest IG post. "Opening Scottsdale with you was a dream, the amount of laughs were unmatched and the late nights in a new city for both of us will never be forgotten. Life’s not fair.."
Our thoughts and prayers are with Obrycka's family and friends as well as the Barstool Sports family.
