Saturday was the final day of the 2025 Minnesota state boys basketball tournament as all four classes played their championship games at Williams Arena in Minneapolis.
Bryson Boike scored a game-high 29 points, Gunner Liebl added 20 more and second-seed Dawson-Boyd ended top-seeded and defending champion Cherry's quest for a repeat in the first title game of the day with an 81-74 victory. It marks the first-ever state title for the Blackjacks in their first trip to state in three-plus decades.
The Blackjacks took a six-point lead at the halftime break, but the Tigers battled back to take multiple leads, including a three-point edge with under 10 minutes remaining.
Drew Hjelmelend hit a game-tying 3-pointer with under nine minutes to go, Boike hit a go-ahead 3 less than a minute later and then the Blackjacks were off and running.
Noah Sundquist led Cherry with a team-high 21 points.
Albany claimed the 2A crown with a 70-63 win over Waseca, completing a 32-0, perfect season. Waseca came up one win short of perfection, finishing 32-1. Zeke Austin led Albany with 27 points and Sam Hondl stuffed the stat sheet with 23 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
Deron Russell paced Waseca with 32 points while Demarion Russell scored 22 to go along with seven steals.
Class 3A
It was another first-time winner in the second championship game of the day as third-seeded Alexandria Area held on to its nine-point halftime lead to pull off a 73-64 upset over top-seeded Mankato East, which finishes as the runner-up for the second season in a row. Chase Thompson led the way with a game-high 28 points and seven boards.
Four players in all finished in double figures for Alexandria Area, which got 16 points from Talan Witt, 13 points from Mason Witt and 10 from Samson Hagstrom.
Brogan Madson scored a team-high 27 points for Mankato East.
Wayzata, playing in the state title game for the fifth consecutive year, cruised over No. 1 Cretin-Derham Hall 80-55 to win the 4A championship.
Wayzata led CDH for all but 26 seconds and turned a 14-point lead at the half into a 25-point victory. They were led by Nolan Anderson's 24 points and 10 rebounds, while standout guard Christian Wiggins poured in
The Trojans also won the state title in 2021 and 2023, while finishing runner up in 2022 and 2024.
