The Ohio State Buckeyes have just one running back committed so far in their 15-man class of 2026: four-star in-state RB Favour Akih. However, that should change this summer.
Ohio State’s top target at the position, No. 1-ranked running back Savion Hiter, remains uncommitted and could make a decision by August.
When it comes to Hiter’s recruitment, the Buckeyes are battling Michigan and Tennessee—both considered serious contenders to land the five-star talent.
According to On3, neither Ohio State nor Georgia is currently leading the race. Instead, it’s Ohio State’s archrival that’s picking up momentum.
“The 5-foot-11.5, 200-pound running back has already visited Georgia and Ohio State, but sources have told Wiltfong and me that the Wolverines and Vols are trending at this point.” — On3

Hiter is currently ranked as the No. 1 running back and No. 17 overall player in the 2026 class, per the 247Sports Composite. As with most elite prospects, NIL is playing a key role in his recruitment.
“Depending on which school the Mineral (Va.) Louisa County five-star settles on, he is expected to sign a financial package worth $600,000 to $800,000 in Year One, sources have told Wiltfong and me.” — On3
Hiter visited Ohio State officially on May 30 and just wrapped up his visit with Michigan. His final official visit will be with Tennessee—the other legitimate contender for the Virginia native, per On3.
Running backs coach Carlos Locklyn is looking to take two running backs in this class. Hiter would be the ideal complement to Akih in Ohio State’s backfield of the future.
