The Texas Tech Red Raiders football program ended coach Joey McGuire's third season at 8-4 overall and 6-3 in the Big 12. While the story of their regular season is done, there's one game left before the offseason.
Eliminated from contention in the Big 12 Championship game and the College Football Playoff, the only question that remains for McGuire & Co. is what bowl game will they play in and against what program.
The Big 12 has affiliations with seven different bowl games, so there are a ton of opportunities for the Red Raiders' postseason appearance.
Here are the Big 12's bowl affiliations as they stand in 2024:
Guaranteed Rate Bowl — Thursday, Dec. 26, 2024 | Phoenix
Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl — Friday, Dec. 27, 2024 | Fort Worth
AutoZone Liberty Bowl — Friday, Dec. 27, 2024 | Memphis
Pop-Tarts Bowl — Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024 | Orlando
Valero Alamo Bowl — Saturday, Dec. 28, 2024 | San Antonio
Texas Bowl — Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024 | Houston
SERVPRO First Responder Bowl or ESPN Events Pool Games — Friday, Jan. 3 | Dallas
Since the program prefers to stay in Texas for bowl games due to the possibility of local support, let's take a look at the top three options.
Texas Bowl - This was the favorite in last week's bowl projections by those who make those predictions. The Red Raiders have historically drawn well in Houston.
Rate Bowl - It's not in Texas, but it would create a magnificent storyline. The matchup would potentially be against Nebraska with one of McGuire's best buddies - Matt Ruhle - on staff as well as his son, Garrett.
Armed Forces Bowl - Another option within the border of Texas, but probably wouldn't make for the best matchup against an American Athletic Conference or Conference-USA opponent.
