Former University of Oklahoma special teams analyst Jay Nunez is taking his talents to Tuscaloosa.
Nunez, an Alva, OK, native who joined Oklahoma’s staff in 2022 after spending five years in various roles at Eastern Michigan, will be the University of Alabama’s next special teams coordinator, OU Insider’s Parker Thune, citing unnamed sources, reported via Twitter on Monday night.

He’d left his role as assistant head coach at Eastern Michigan to join the OU staff in 2022. It’s not immediately clear who will replace him in Norman.
Nunez oversaw all special teams in practice, but as an analyst, he was prohibited from coaching them on gameday. So Venables assigned each special teams unit to various on-field assistant coaches.
Nunez reportedly received a pay increase from $110,000 to $250,000 after his promotion from senior student program coordinator to special teams analyst before the 2023 season.
The Sooners finished sixth in net kickoff return yardage in the Big 12 in 2023; 10th in punt return yardage; 11th in field goal percentage in 2023; and eighth in net punting.
