If you're going to deteriorate into a punchline, the joke might as well come from one of the greatest American comedians of all-time. Right, Jerry Seinfeld?
The iconic star of Seinfeld stunned WFAN listeners - and host Chris McMonigle - this week when he surprisingly called into the sports talk station and identified himself only as "Jerry from Queens." Turns out what prompted the call were the hosts discussing his 1990s sitcom, but it quickly veered into a jab at the New York Giants.
McMoingle was hosting his nightly show when his producer took a jab at Seinfeld. The Producer boldly claimed that the show had "only three episodes." Then the phone rang. Sure enough ...
“I love the show; I’m not arrogant enough to think everybody should like what I do,” Seinfeld said after the hosts recognized his voice. “I just wanted you to know that doesn’t bother me. I’m okay with it; one out of two is fine for me. That’s all I wanted to say.”
Before he hung up, however, "Jerry from Queens" delivered his own shot at the 2-8 Giants.
“Look, we made 180 Seinfeld episodes,” he said. “So, we made three good ones. We’re like the Giants. We’re 3–177!”
Seinfeld stayed on the phone for about 10 minutes, also delving into the playoff failures of his coveted New York Mets and the hated New York Yankees baseball teams.
If the NFL season ended today the Giants would have the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 draft. The team is taking this week's Bye to re-evaluate everything from the coaching staff to quarterback Daniel Jones. There's not a lot to smile about.
But good to know that at least one New York sports fan hasn't lost his sense of humor.
