Shedeur Sanders' Comments Have Shannon Sharpe Questioning Criticism of Browns QB

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders' journey to the NFL hasn’t been easy.

Sanders, 23, wasn’t selected until the third day of April’s draft during the fifth round with the 144th overall pick. Following the dramatic fall, some fans began calling him out for his family thinking a team would select the former Colorado Buffaloes QB in the first round.

Furthermore, another mountain of accusations came his way after the pre-draft meetings because there was speculation that he was unprepared to participate in them, leading to teams not drafting him due to his responses. Another challenge facing him is that he has only played with the backups throughout the start of Cleveland’s minicamp.

However, neither situation has changed his attitude. Instead, he has been focused on being proactive and making the best of things, which earned him respect from an NFL legend.

“I love this response, now you got me questioning whether or not he was unprepared when he came to those meetings,” Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe said during a recent episode of his “Nightcap” podcast with co-host Chad Ochocinco Johnson. “I think y’all tried to salt that man up. I’ve only heard responses like this; I mean, when he was in college, you know, he was a little facetious at times, but I never got the indication that he was unprepared.”

Sharpe believes Sanders' father, Colorado head coach Deion Sanders, played a significant role in helping his son prepare for the draft meetings. However, despite Sharpe's claim, Deion Sanders' involvement throughout the process is unknown.

Meanwhile, his son is still playing well at the Browns' mandatory minicamp. Even though he is practicing with the backups, there is potential that if Sanders performs well he can start playing with the starters and overtake veteran quarterback Joe Flacco for the starting spot.
